Cheaper Weight Loss Through Small Group Personal Training

If weight loss is important to you and you want it at an affordable price, you need to know about small group personal training.  Small group personal training is more focused than a group aerobics class and less expensive than 1-1 personal training.  It’s not a boot camp either – its more than that.  More attention, more variety, more interaction and more value.

Here’s a quick example of what personal training in a small group setting looks like:

As a personal trainer in Denver, whenever I travel to go to conferences whether as an attendee or a delegate to present I am always amazed by the divide between group exercise instructors and personal trainers.

Why does this divide exist?  Why hasn’t it been bridged by other personal trainers and group instructors?

Is it because the group instructors thin the personal trainers can’t keep a beat and the personal trainers think the group instructors can’t count to 12?  Up until now, boot camp instructors have been teaching boot camp as a solution – but some people need a more focused approach than just a regular boot camp can offer.

What does it mean to have a small group personal training class?  To me, it means the best of both worlds.  Interactive enough that you get personalized attention and don’t get stuck in a crowd (like you might at an aerobics class) but not so one-on-one that you end up paying $80/hr for some guy to hold your water bottle for you and yell intermittently at you.

If you were to add in some fun new equipment the world hasn’t seen before, then that makes things even more fun and interesting.

Check the video below to see an example of a small group class I recently taught:

That’s right, I said disco ball!

Denver Red Rocks Fitness Bootcamp: Where Buff meets Beauty

Looking for a Fitness Boot camp at Red Rocks?

Currently boot camps are held at two locations – at my private downtown denver  studio (during the week) and at the mighty Red Rocks ampitheater (on Saturdays) – both are challenging, functionally focused workouts and above all are lots of fun:

See a couple of our red rocks bootcamps in action below:

Red Rocks boot camp Location & Details:

If you are looking for a great Workout in the Denver area where you can test your Fitness and get Buff while admiring nature’s Beauty, then you need look no further than a workout at what some might call the “8th wonder of the world”:  Red Rocks.

With all the great feedback I have been getting, I can’t believe I waited 8 years to start doing this fitness bootcamp at Red Rocks!

There is something about looking over the beauty of a massive rock formation such as the Red Rocks Amphitheater.  Whether it is the view, the beauty of the Rocks or the altitude that makes my brain go a bit funny, it makes for an amazing place to conduct a class or just to go for a brisk (but strenuous) hike.

That’s why I encourage all of my clients (and anyone in general, actually) to go run the Rocks from time to time, if just to remember that exercise doesn’t always have to happen inside four walls.

However, as with any exercise program, if you jump in and go for it you can sometimes find your workout gives you more pain than you bargained for (sometimes to the point of injury!)

on your marks… get set…

Working out by yourself, you might also find that certain muscles developed faster than others, creating muscle imbalance, burning out ahead of schedule and burning less calories as a result.

To burn the most calories, get the greatest amount of work with the lowest chance of injury, you need a structured warm-up, cool down and a variety of movements that suit your body and strengthen you where you need it while burning fat away from where you don’t.

Here’s a quick shot of our downtown studio location (if you were looking for that instead)

As you can see, the Bonza Bodies studio is a small private studio as opposed to a large facility.

Click here to go straight to our class schedule and how to get to this location if you already know all about the Red Rocks Classes

I work in this smaller private space for a few reasons:

Weather will never stop play – unless safety on the roads becomes a factor.

I will have all my toys and dont have to share – I play well with others, just dont believe my clients should have to.

I prefer a smaller class over the megabootcamps of 50+ people – The less people that attend, the less personal attention I am able to give them.  I don’t put more than 8 people in my studio at any one time.  It gets tight with 6, but the atmosphere is electric (and sweaty!)

Interested?  Email me at info@bonzabodies.com and I will send you more information on my downtown denver boot camp location.  Keep reading to learn more about my Red Rocks class we teach every Saturday!

Denver Fitness: Why Running Red Rocks is the Best Workout In the World!

In Denver Colorado there is a mythical indian ceremonial ground just a few miles down from a place that is affectionately called ‘Red Rocks’.  Sometimes people like to run up these mythical stairs, perhaps drawn to the redness of the rocks or the beautiful landscape that comes with it.  One thing is for sure, when taking part in a boot camp class, the landscape certainly helps take one’s mind off of the intense fitness workout they usually face.

The old 'last one to the top is a rotten egg'.... never fails :)

The old ‘last one to the top is a rotten egg’ trick…. never fails 🙂

UPDATE – RED ROCKS BOOTCAMP IS IN FULL SWING ALL YEAR ROUND!:

Details:

Our boot camp classes meet every tuesday, thursday at 6am, 815am on Saturdays.  Prices vary depending on how often you’d like to come.

Live in Denver?  email info@bonzabodies.com or call 720 257 9328 to get a free pass to one of our classes

meet at the visitors center up top of red rocks.  just look for the 6’7″ Australian guy or a small group of friendly lookin’ people waiting for me to show up 🙂

As you can see, it is well worth the visit:

red-rocks-amphitheatre1

don’t worry – you don’t have to climb them all.  Just most of them.  Numerous times.

Multiple bands of Red Rock boot camp exercise groupies have been known to gather at various times of morning, but depending on what world famous band is playing later that night, sometimes will show up early in the afternoon to get a quick stair session in.

Some come well prepared to sweat.  Some just show up to play.  All leave with a smile on their face.  Here’s why:

Three reasons why a Red Rocks Boot Camp is the Best Workout in the World:

#1 – The air

redrocks1

If you like running, think of any stadium you might have been in.  Now imagine the traffic, industry and stagnant air you were breathing in.  The air at red rocks is worth bottling and selling – unfortunately you are at such a high elevation you might not get much in the jar!

The air is clean, but also it is thin – perfect for hardening any cardiovascular system to compete with regular sea-level loving folks.

#2:  The stairs

redrocksrun

They come in a variety of punishing depths and widths, each with their own cardiovascular and muscular challenges.  It is almost as if climbing to the top of these stairs is to overcome gravity itself – which seems to get significantly more challenging as you keep going up…

Maybe its a heavier gravity area at the top of the stairs 😉  you know, increased density of rock and all that physics jargon.  Here is my new theory of Red Rocks relativity:    E = MC vomit

#3:  The people

redrocks24jpg

Imagine going to a track meet.  Or maybe a spin class.  You might even like going to the gym with all its recycled air and minimal stairs 🙂

Every time I go to Red Rocks to teach boot camp I know I will see something I have never seen before.

It might be someone climbing up the stairs backwards on hands and feet.

Perhaps some collection of guys who have decided to risk skin cancer on 90% of their body in the middle of winter.

Or even just sitting back and absorbing the massive blend of people all accepting each other for just being there.  For releasing their inner child and just playing.

redrocks2

“Just one more round of stairs, Mom!”

So if you are in the Denver area and you have never been to Red Rocks, go check it out.  Go any morning (Saturday is always a popular day) and bring your running shoes – even if you have no plans to workout (you will at least look the part, right?).

The fever is contagious.  Seeing so many people with smiles on their faces may cause you to remember what it felt like to exercise without worrying about what ‘zone’ your heart rate was in.

So that’s my Red Rocks.  I urge you to go – but I also urge you to have fun with it.  Treat the large open landscape of rocky goodness with the same joy that you would a playground in your younger years.

Forget about the sets and reps and just experiment and play.  Do some smaller steps, bigger steps, side to side steps, funky push-ups, stretches on the rail, breathe deep, laugh with a friend and most importantly, feed your playful spirit.

Exercise should not be about how many calories you burned in that hour, but how much life you squeezed out of every minute of it.

Or maybe I’m crazy.  If you know me, then you already know my obsession with the integrative nature of the muscles of the body and the intricate muscles that hold us all together (which I guess answers the whole ‘crazy’ question)

Want to be part of a boot camp class at Red Rocks?

If you haven’t figured it out by now, I teach a class there every saturday at 815am.  If you are interested, you can email info@bonzabodies.com or call me on 720 257 9328 with any questions you might have, boot camp related or not.  or just comment on this post and I will track you down from there.

Now go get to Red Rocks and start a’ steppin’!

Jamie Atlas
